Public service windows to stay open on weekend
COMMUNITY service centers across the city will extend their business time to seven days a week to meet people's need for welfare, employment and other services concerning their daily life, the municipal government said today.
Many such centers now only open on weekdays.
The city government has received many complaints about the working hours of their community service centers. The decision to extend their work days is to address their concerns, said Jiang Ping, vice mayor of Shanghai.
Some residents said most public service windows are closed on Saturday and Sunday, making it inconvenient for people who have to ask for leave from work to visit these centers, Jiang said.
He added that other municipal departments will also prolong their service time, including the Shanghai Human Resources and Social Security Bureau which will provide residence permit service on Saturday.
