Qingpu aims for a cleaner environment

Qingpu District is striving to bring water quality in 95 percent of its waters up to standard by 2025 with forest coverage of 20 percent for Yangtze River Delta ecology integration, Jiang Aifeng, the district鈥檚 deputy head, said yesterday.

Qingpu will also cooperate with Suzhou鈥檚 Wujiang District and Jiaxing鈥檚 Jiashan County to unify ecological and environmental standards, ecological monitoring systems and environmental supervision law enforcement.

The three areas will promote the treatment of some interprovincial rivers and lakes such as the Taipu River and Dianshan Lake to build a 鈥渃lean water corridor鈥 and a 鈥済reen belt.鈥

The district will carry out pollution control on the sources of pollutants and by the end of this year will complete a grade-two water source conservation zone and rectify 194 factories and companies鈥 pollution problems.

It will speed up establishment of a 鈥済reen financial demonstration zone鈥 and boost development of ancient towns.
