Qingpu aims for a cleaner environment

Qingpu District is striving to bring water quality in 95 percent of its waters up to standard by 2025 with forest coverage of 20 percent for Yangtze River Delta ecology integration, Jiang Aifeng, the district’s deputy head, said yesterday.

Qingpu will also cooperate with Suzhou’s Wujiang District and Jiaxing’s Jiashan County to unify ecological and environmental standards, ecological monitoring systems and environmental supervision law enforcement.

The three areas will promote the treatment of some interprovincial rivers and lakes such as the Taipu River and Dianshan Lake to build a “clean water corridor” and a “green belt.”

The district will carry out pollution control on the sources of pollutants and by the end of this year will complete a grade-two water source conservation zone and rectify 194 factories and companies’ pollution problems.

It will speed up establishment of a “green financial demonstration zone” and boost development of ancient towns.
