ROK transport cards to lure tourists

THE Republic of Korea is targeting Chinese tourists with a new public transport card and easier-to-get visas.

The Korea Tourism Organization, a government-invested body that acts as the central force in developing Korea's tourism industry, is distributing Y-MONEY transport cards this month to tourists in Shanghai, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.

The cards cost 2,000 South Korea Won (US$1.51) and carry 3000KRW worth of travel discounts - tourists can put more money onto the cards.

Card users are entitled to a discount of 100KRW on public transport fares as well as other transport bargains.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai has also announced it has simplified visa application policies in Shanghai and the provinces of Zhejiang, Anhui and Jiangsu.

Anyone who has already visited a place like the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and Europe will now not have to provide an employment certificate and the company's business license when applying for an individual tourist visa. The policy also applies to anyone who has visited ROK on more than three occasions.
