Raccoon dogs seen on cameras
A RESEARCH team from Fudan University has found raccoon dogs, related to foxes, in more than 60 neighborhoods in Shanghai.
鈥淪lightly larger than cats and rabbits, raccoon dogs are rather mild-tempered and more suitable for urban activities,鈥 said Wang Fang, a team member and a researcher from the university鈥檚 School of Life Sciences.
The team, along with nearly 100 volunteers, has been using 80 infrared cameras to track wild animals since 2019, mostly in green areas near water sources or sparsely populated places with a good natural environment, such as parks and campuses.
Seven of the 10 infrared cameras installed in Binjiang Forest Park in the Pudong New Area have captured raccoon dogs so far.
