Reform scheme allows doctors to work in more than one hospital
A total of 114 leading experts from state-owned hospitals have been working at Shanghai International Medical Center under a reform scheme that allows doctors to work in more than one medical facility.
The private hospital, which officially opened in March 2014, is located in the Pudong International Medical Zone, one of two medical zones in the city have private and joint-venture hospitals offering high-end services.
The center signed an agreement with eight leading state-owned hospitals to allow their experts to work in the center. The health authority approved the measure under the condition that their employers give consent to the experts.
In addition to hiring experts from public hospitals, the center yesterday introduced a new service that allows patients to have surgery sooner. Patients can send their medical record and test results to the hospital online. If they meet surgery requirements patients can book the operation as soon as possible.
About 60 to 70 percent of the center’s patients are not Shanghainese.
Previously, patients from other provinces had to travel to Shanghai for consultations with doctors before it could be determined whether they needed surgery.
“The procedure can save patients a lot of hassle,” said Dr Yu Zhiqing, the center’s vice president.
