Renowned Shanghai film director dies at 90
HUANG Zumo, director of the classic Chinese movie, "Romance on Lushan Mountain," died on Saturday night in Shanghai. He was 90.
Huang, who got famous for shooting the movie, died of heart failure in Huashan Hospital. A funeral will be held this Sunday.
The 1980 blockbuster about two young lovers who were forced to separate due to opposing political views of their families was regarded a landmark for Chinese romance movies as it was the first Chinese film since 1949 to show a kissing scene.
The Shanghai-born director was also famous for directing the Yue Opera, or Shaoxing Opera, "Dreams of the Red Mansions," four times. His other masterpieces include "Hua Tuo and Cao Cao" and "Zhang Heng," both about historical figures.
