Retailers plan run-up specials
SHOPS and department stores in Shanghai are planning a city-wide campaign beginning on Sunday to cash in the 2010 World Expo Shanghai.
From then until May 30, retailers will promote Expo licensed products, time-honored Chinese brands and Shanghai cuisines in major shopping areas.
About 10 billion yuan (US$1.46 billion) worth of Expo-themed products have been sold so far.
"We expect demand will get even stronger after the Expo opens and we are confident to achieve 20 billion yuan sales revenue," said Chen Yuxian, a Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce official.
