Reward given for tipping off cloned taxi
LOCAL taxi watchdog said today that two people were rewarded 500 yuan for a tip that led to the capture of a "cloned" cab.
They were the first to be rewarded after the city opened a hotline for tip-off on July 29. They got the money from the Shanghai Taxi Association.
The traffic law enforcement team, which collects evidence following a tip-off, did not reveal the identities of the two people, saying they shall be protected.
Authorities said they have received 76 such phone calls and officials are still investigating on the clues.
People are encouraged to take photos or write down the taxi plates of cabs that look suspicious.
Only after illegal operations are confirmed or illegal cabbies are nabbed, the informers will receive the reward, the authorities said.
