Road rage stab charge

A MOTORIST has been formally arrested and charged following a road rage incident in which a taxi driver was stabbed on a downtown highway last month.

The 22-year-old suspect, surnamed Li, has been charged with causing a disturbance, Jing'an District prosecutors said yesterday.

Li was driving along Yan'an Elevated Road near a ramp onto Maoming Road about noon on October 19 when he was overtaken by a taxi.

According to prosecutors, Li got angry at being cut up and overtook the taxi and forced it to stop.

He got out of his vehicle, walked up to the taxi driver sitting in his car, produced a pocket knife and stabbed him in the left arm, it is claimed.

Li then allegedly returned to his own car and driven off.

Li was apprehended on the night of October 21 at a gas station.

Prosecutors said Li, from Heilongjiang Province, made a living in Shanghai as an unlicensed taxi driver.
