Robbery victim bites criminal's ear

A ROBBER who called police to claim he had been a robbery victim in a bid to have his injured ear treated free has been jailed for two years by Minhang District People's Court.

Xiao Jianfeng, a 25-year-old from Chongqing Municipality, worked in a construction site in Pujiang Town, Minhang District, the court was told.

On the night of November 4, last year, he hailed a tricycle ridden by a man surnamed Chen, who charged him 10 yuan (US$1.46).

When the tricycle came to a remote road, Xiao, seeing that nobody was around, decided to rob Chen, trying to strangle him with a shoelace and demanding money.

Chen stopped the tricycle and fought back, biting Xiao's ear before riding away and calling police.

Xiao was refused hospital treatment the next day because he had no money, so called police and told them he had been robbed and bitten on the ear.

But police had already received Chen's report saying he had bitten a robber's ear, and brought Chen to the hospital, who identified Xiao as the culprit.
