Seized bikes dismantled
MORE than 200 substandard electric bikes with overloading and speeding problems were dismantled yesterday and their components reprocessed and recycled into raw materials like rubber, steel and iron.
The bikes were among the 1,174 electric bikes confiscated by the Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau between July and December during an intensified campaign against substandard electric bikes, responsible for a rise in traffic accidents.
The majority of the bikes had no speed limit control device, or were overweight or lacked basic functions.
