Shaanxi selects emperor for six months

ORGANIZERS of the Shaanxi Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo have launched a contest in the northwest China province to select image ambassadors for its pavilion and promote its rich cultural history during the six-month event.

The couple will portray legendary lovers emperor Tang Minghuang and his favorite concubine Yang Guifei in the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

Candidates shouldn't be too slim, as the two were chubby according to the customs of the day, organizers told today's Oriental Morning Post.

And they'll have to measure up to strict standards – Yang must be under 30, over 165cm and 50kg, while the emperor must be younger than 45, over 175cm and 65kg, as well as have a good grasp of the province's history.

However, the winners will get 10,000 yuan (US$1,465), as well as the chance to play royalty for six months.
