Shanghai Whitecat's sanitizer fails tests
A HAND sanitizer produced by a famous Shanghai chemicals company was found substandard by local quality watchdog due to a pH index problem.
The hand sanitizer in four-kilogram packaging was produced by the Shanghai Whitecat Special Chemicals Co Ltd, the Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision said yesterday.
Doctors said that a high pH index can lead to skin allergies and make people vulnerable to bacteria.
Whitecat was the only one on the poor quality list among the 17 hand sanitizers checked.
Bureau officials reminded consumers to pay close attention to the packaging and tags, and to avoid buying products with bad and pungent smells, which may indicate the product has expired or was blended with banned substances.
The bureau also said five insecticide and mosquito coils failed its quality inspection. All of them were produced by Jiangsu-based companies such as Jiangsu Sanxiao Group Co Ltd and Jiangsu Aifute Co Ltd.
The bureau reminded consumers to keep their windows and doors open while using insecticide products to ensure their houses are well ventilated, and to store the products in dark areas away from flammable materials.
