Shanghai to recruit 4,000 more cab drivers

SHANGHAI will recruit 4,000 drivers for the taxis it plans to add to the city's fleet before World Expo opens next month.

The extra cabs are among the 4,000 taxis set aside to serve the six-month event, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.

Taxi companies are still working out the recruitment plan, and indicated jobs could open to the neighboring Yangzte River Delta area to attract more candidates, the report said.

Currently, Shanghai's cab drivers are recruited from residents.

Cab drivers earn around 4,000 yuan (US$586) a month.
