Shanghai tourists stabbed in island resort

FOUR Shanghai tourists were stabbed and injured yesterday noon in a brawl with a drunken man on Gulangyu Island, a popular tourist destination in Xiamen, Fujian Province.
The incident occurred when the Shanghai tourists asked the 47-year-old man from Guizhou Province not to occupy a whole bench in a park.
Local police have arrested the man who is also a tourist and came to Xiamen the day before.
Of the four victims, a middle-aged woman was seriously injured with a stabbing wound in the back. None of them were in critical condition, local police said.
Witnesses said the man looked drunk and was lying on the bench when the four tourists asked him to move to one side and make room for others to sit. A quarrel erupted and he stabbed the Shanghai tourists with a knife.
