Ship carrying fertilizer explodes, 1 killed

A cargo barge carrying chemical fertilizer exploded at about 6am today on the Zhangjing River in the city's southern Jinshan District, victimizing a family of three on the ship, a report on xinmin.cn said.
The woman is confirmed dead because of severe injuries.
Her husband and son were still hospitalized for injuries that are less life-threatening.
District authorities confirmed that unidentified gas in the ship cabin exploded and fired spread quickly.
The blast has not caused a chemical pollution in the river by the time of reporting and officials are investigating the cause of the incident, the report said.
