Short films focus on ordinary Shanghai residents

"THIS Is Shanghai," a city promotion series featuring the work and life of ordinary residents, will be screened daily at the intervals of TV programs on STV and OTV news channels, starting from January 1.

More than 500 people in all walks of life took part in the series' shooting. The first season of the series presents four episodes about a subway maintenance worker, a primary school art teacher, a clock keeper who works in the clock tower atop the Customs House on the Bund, and a maritime environment monitor who has worked alone on an island about 100 kilometers from Shanghai for more than 30 years.

According to Gao Yang, a producer of the series, the characters they portrayed in the films are so low-profile that their existence is hardly felt, but they play an important role to keep the city running.

"We're deeply impressed by their dedication to work and their responsibility for the city," Gao said.

More series will be made next year, zooming in on the lives of people such as traffic police and people in cartoon costumes to interact with children.
