Specialist taxis for Expo

NEXT year's Expo goers can enjoy the service of a specialist team of 4,000 taxis from the city's major cab companies through a multilingual booking service.

The service will begin a test run next March. Expo visitors viewers can call the service to book a taxi to or from the exhibition area. The phone line can provide English, French and Japanese service, reported the Oriental Morning Post.

An online booking service will also be available.

During Expo, only these special cabs will have access to the Expo control area. They will also be responsible for carrying residents in the controlled area as normal taxis, buses and private cars will be banned there.

The service center will have 70 telephone operators to take calls. A specialised section in the hot line will also assure that residents within the area can have convenient transport.

Another 2,000 Expo cabs will be on standby as an emergency backup to accommodate surging demand in the rush hours.

Those who have complaints about the Expo taxi service can call 96822. The center said it will make reported problems are solved within 24 hours.
