Spiteful ex-beaudetained
A MAN who allegedly posted "pornographic" pictures of his ex-girlfriend on the Internet after she ditched him has been detained by police.
The man, who was identified as Zhu, was taken into custody by Changning District police on Thursday and faces charges of insulting behavior, the Shanghai Morning Post reported yesterday.
Zhu reportedly uploaded the pictures of his unnamed ex-girlfriend on May 8 and provided links for free downloads after that. The girl had broken up with him and found a new boyfriend.
The girl, a student at the Shanghai Maritime University, called the police immediately and hired three attorneys to pursue the man through the courts.
Zhu may face up to three years of imprisonment.
The girl's lawyers have been trying to stop the spread of the pictures online.
The number of links to the pictures has dropped to nearly 30,000 from more than 70,000 a week ago.
The attorneys collected evidence from some prominent Web portals that had published the pictures and urged those portals to delete the photographs and block all links, warning that they would be sued.
