Spring Festival is busiest time for this doctor

Dr Wang Min at Shanghai Ai’er Eye Hospital has been extremely busy in recent days. She normally does 30 to 40 myopia surgeries every day, and winter holidays around the Spring Festival is the peak season for people seeking myopia treatment and operations.

Patients from across the nation, and even from other countries and regions, come to the hospital to make use of the holiday to receive surgery.

“With the awareness and demand for good vision and the improvement of medical technology, more people want to receive myopia surgery to get rid of glasses,” said Wang, who has nearly 20 years’ experience in myopia treatment. “Medical equipment and doctors’ skills in leading cities like Shanghai are on par with developed countries. Moreover, cost in Shanghai is much lower than those in countries like the United States, so some patients come to Shanghai during Spring Festival for the surgery.”

She said the whole surgery only lasts about five minutes and patients won’t feel pain or discomfort during the process.

While one patient is receiving surgery in the operation room, several others queue outside. Wang and her assistants don’t have time to rest.
