Staff to get vaccinated

WORLD Expo workers and volunteers will begin receiving vaccinations against major respiratory and other diseases to ensure the event continues to run smoothly.

The Shanghai Heath Bureau said yesterday that the program will include vaccinations against swine flu and seasonal flu, as well as a joint shot for measles, mumps and rubella if an individual hasn't received such an inoculation within the past year.

Also, those serving in food production, processing, transportation, sales or involved in the Expo site's water supply will receive a hepatitis A shot if they have never received such vaccine, the bureau said.

The inoculations will begin early this month and conclude in mid July.

"The vaccinations are free and voluntary," said Song Guofan, a bureau official. "We suggest all key people get vaccinated since spring and summer are usually peak seasons for infectious diseases."

Expo workers should go to their neighborhood health centers for immunization.
