Store theft trio jailed
THREE people who stole clothes and then returned them to stores to make money were sentenced to jail for stealing, the Changning District People's Court said today.
The defendants, surnamed Zhou, Sun and Meng, received jail terms of up to two years and two months and were fined 3,000 yuan (US$450) each, following the verdict.
The three started committing these offences at the end of last year. They would first buy receipts from other customers and then stole the items listed on the receipts. They would then return the stolen merchandise to the stores and by showing the receipts they were refunded money.
They targeted clothes stores and made 14,615 yuan from the illegal acts.
In January, Meng aroused suspicion when returning clothes at a store near Zhongshan Park. Meng went to the same store as the day before to return clothes, but the two signatures from Meng were different, which led to the three being caught.
