Store with overpriced jade shut
A LOCAL store selling overpriced jade to tourist groups was suspended yesterday, after it drew complaints.
Jade products sold at the Shanghai Shiyuan Jade Center in Hongkou District were found to have no price tag, and were sold to tourists at very high prices, the industrial and commercial administrative authorities said.
The store claimed its jade products are high-end and should be priced at nearly 10,000 yuan (US$1,612) each, while offering them to tourists at several hundred yuan. Inflating prices and then giving big bargains is a common trick to lure the unsuspecting, officials said. Some guides brought groups to the store, and the tourists were encouraged to buy the jade.
