Student on knife charge

A SCHOOL student was arrested yesterday for allegedly stabbing a fellow pupil.

The minor, surnamed Huang, has been charged with assault, the Minhang District Prosecutors' Office said.

On October 13, while students were having choir practice, the class monitor, surnamed Tao, got into an argument with a girl identified as Shun over her performance. But she refused to accept Tao's criticism and their arguments led to the rehearsal being suspended.

When it resumed next morning, Tao was still angry with Shun's performance and is said to have slapped her in the face in front of her classmates. The 15-year-old ran off to find her "boyfriend," Fu, also a student at the school.

That afternoon Fu, 17, gathered more than 20 classmates to confront Tao. Fu punched him on the face. Huang, Tao's classmate, threatened Fu with a knife, prosecutors said. Huang is then alleged to have stabbed him several times.

Fu was taken to hospital where doctors found serious wounds to his liver and stomach and numerous cuts to his chest and limbs.
