THE first wave of government subsidies were given out over the weekend to locals who trade old home appliances to buy new ones.
Shanghai natives are entitled to a maximum 10 percent discount on new televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners and personal computers if they hand in an old one. The government subsidy is valid until May 31 next year.
