Suspicious cab
A MAN has been detained for driving an alleged illegal taxi and slightly injuring a police officer in Changning District, local police said yesterday. Police are still investigating the suspect, surnamed Zhang, after officers found a knife and hammer in his car, tools possibly tied to a robbery.
The police were tipped off on May 17 that there was a dispute over a taxi fare at the intersection of Xinhua Road and Xianghuaqiao Road. As Officer Lu Min grabbed the cab door, the driver suddenly drove off and Lu was then dragged to the ground, a surveillance camera recorded. The suspect had illegally installed roof-top light and taxi meter on his car to make it look like a real taxi, police said.
