Swindler dealt 14-year term

A woman who swindled more than 4.23 million yuan (US$664,729) from friends by promising high profits on investments was sentenced to 14 1/2 years in prison for fraud, Minhang District People's Court said yesterday.
The 36-year-old convict, identified as Sun Ying, was also fined 10,000 yuan. The Shanghai resident tricked her friends, identified as Wang and Shen, into transferring money to her bank account and took the money from two of her friends between March 2006 and February 2010. Prosecutors said Sun told Wang and Shen that they could receive an investment return of 20 percent a year because she was a bank employee.
