Taiwan playwright jumps to death from Xuhui high-rise
THE husband of a famous Taiwanese actress died early this morning after falling from his high-rise apartment in downtown Xuhui District.
The tragedy happened at about 4am in the upscale Wellington Garden at 138 Huaihai Road W., Xuhui police said. Deng Yu-Quen, a well-known scriptwriter from Taiwan, was found dead in the greenery underneath his apartment in the complex. He was 64.
Xuhui police have ruled out the possibility of homicide.
Deng's wife, Lau Suet-Wah, found the tragedy in the morning and called the police, according to Shanghai TV news.
Lau, 51, is a celebrated actress who starred in many romantic TV plays in Taiwan. She and Deng got married in 1999 and had lived in Shanghai since.
