Take Bus, Not Car, To Expo: Officials
CITY transport officials are urging visitors to Shanghai to take buses rather than drive their own vehicles to the 2010 World Expo later this year, and promise to ensure a convenient coach ride to Expo sites. Officials are working with the transport industry to set up special coach service routes to the Expo area.
"Please take buses if possible and give up on the idea of driving by yourselves to reduce the road pressure," Huang Xiaoyong, an official with the urban transport bureau, said yesterday.
Officials said 12 dedicated parking lots around Expo zones will service buses arriving from other provinces.
Certified provincial coach buses can drive into the parking lots directly or stop at major tourism hubs in the city, where visitors can transfer to dedicated shuttle buses to travel into the Expo.
