Talented and devoted actors make movie a success

THE director of the movie “The Conformist” which was a nominee for the Golden Goblet award of the Shanghai International Film Festival attributed its success to its talented and devoted actors.

The director Cai Shang-Jun and screenwriter Gu Zheng said the movie was mostly shot along the borders between Russia and China during the cold months of November and December. “It really takes dedication and competence for the actors to craft a character in cold days below 30 degrees Celcius,” Cai said at a press conference today after the movie’s first screening. He praised Huang Bo, who stared one of the main characters, as one of China’s best male actors and perfect for his role.

When asked about the theme this crime movie wishes to convey, both guests referred to it on the spiritual level. The existence of a human relies on its spirit, and there is a beam of light that allows the spirit to show. The Conformist is about this beam of light and how easily it can darken.

This movie is one that will kindle many thoughts in the audience. Its final scene involving a tiger was explained by Cai as one that has infinite meanings. The Conformist will be screened in theaters across the country in another month or two.
