Teacher hurts boy's eye with a flying pencil
SHANGHAI police are investigating the incident in which a teacher threw a pencil at a 9-year-old boy and wounded his eye.
The boy surnamed Dan said he could see some light with his injured left eye but could not see things clearly after an eye surgery at the Xinhua Hospital.
Doctors said the pencil pricked the boy's cornea but missed the iris. The boy needs to stay in the hospital for observation of about three to five days.
Dan, a student of the Shuifeng Road Elementary School in Yangpu District, said his Chinese language teacher surnamed Ma was very angry that he used a mechanical pencil, a taboo in her class, and threw the pencil at him, which hit his eye.
Ma used to be a kind teacher who would not give them a lot of homework. But yesterday Ma became a bad person, the boy said.
The Yangpu District Education Bureau said they are cooperating with the police in the investigation.
