Teacher vanishes after borrowing 500,000 yuan

A PRIMARY school teacher has gone missing after borrowing about 500,000 yuan (US$73,240) from parents of nearly 20 pupils in northeast Shanghai's Yangpu District.

Shidong Primary School has reported the case to education authorities and police are investigating, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

The grade 1 English teacher surnamed Xu had been borrowing money on various pretexts since July, parents told the newspaper. One father had lent her 350,000 yuan.
