Teen wakes from 9-month coma
A teenager has woken up from a 9-month coma after suffering serious brain injuries from a car accident at the end of last year - just in time for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The Anhui Province local, surnamed Fan, was rushed to the Shanghai No. 3 People's Hospital last December and was in a deep coma after suffering serious brain injuries.
Fan's recovery was helped on by his loving parents - his father massaged him every day and his mother told him funny tales from his childhood.
The 18-year-old had been working at a fast-food chain store in Baoshan District when he was hit by a sedan on his way home after work. It rained heavily when the accident happened.
At the end of last month, Fan suddenly began showing responses when people touched him and finally woke up right before the Mid Autumn Festival, a traditional Chinese festival for family reunions which falls on September 12 this year.
Now he's able to follow simple orders such as opening and closing his eyes and his arms can also move.
But the hospital has not said whether he would ever be able to talk or recover fully again.
