Tesla Model 3 car catches fire in garage
United States electric automaker Tesla has responded after a Model 3 car caught fire in Shanghai on Tuesday night but didn’t result in any injuries.
The fire broke out in an underground garage in a residential area. According to the car’s owner and Tesla’s analysis of vehicle data, the fire was caused by a collision below the vehicle.
According to netizens on Sina Weibo, the incident occurred in a community in Qibao, Minhang District. A picture showed a burned Model 3 surrounded by thick white firefighting foam.
The car was parked close to the entrance of the underground garage.
Tesla officials said they’re cooperating with the fire department and providing assistance on insurance claims.
According to a report in kankanews.com, the fire was a result of a collision of the high-voltage battery at the bottom, which caused internal battery cell damage and short circuit, eventually leading to the fire.
The Model 3 was charred with just the metal frame left.
According to the security guard of the community, he heard an explosion in the garage, which was followed by smoke and flames.
The owner said that after driving the car into the garage, he felt the chassis had collided and stopped to check the vehicle. He found smoke emanating from the front, so he took out his personal belongings and rushed to seek help before the vehicle caught fire.
A probe has been launched.
