Three hospitalized after fire destroys home

A family of three suffered extensive burns early this morning when their apartment caught fire. The father and daughter are listed in serious condition in a Shanghai hospital.
The three were in sleep when the fire started in their apartment on Shuidian Road in Hongkou District at about 3am. The daughter woke up first and called out to her parents but their home was already ablaze and filled smoke, local Xinmin.com reported.
They groped their way out without putting on more clothes and that caused them widespread burns, the report said.
Firefighters came immediately after receiving reports from the family's neighbors and soon put out the fire, but the apartment has been gutted, according to the neighbors.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the report said.
