Three-driver plan for cabs
SHANGHAI'S traffic authority is proposing that three taxi drivers instead of the current two share the daily shifts on cabs.
Sun Jianping, director of Shanghai Transport and Port Authority, revealed this yesterday during an online chat with local residents, today's Shanghai Evening News reported.
The authority has worked out a plan to redesign taxi drivers' work and better look after the drivers' interests, Sun said. It will invite drivers to comment on the plan, he added.
"We have to be careful," Sun said. "To have three drivers share one taxi means a reduction in their income as well as a cut in the workload," he pointed out.
Currently, two drivers daily share one taxi in the city and they share the fares.
To make more money, drivers have to work as long as possible. Fatigue has been blamed for drivers' deteriorating health and has raised safety concerns for drivers and passengers.
