Tire shot out to nab narcotic suspect

SHANGHAI police have nabbed a suspected drug dealer by shooting out a front tire of the man's vehicle.

The suspect, surnamed Wu, was driving his car toward police officers in suburban Qingpu District.

Police said yesterday that the gunshot flattened the tire, causing the suspect to stop. They found drugs and knives on him and inside his car.

Police said they had been working on a drug case and were aware of Wu's identity. They heard of a drug deal going down last Thursday and were waiting on Qingsong Road, where they stopped Wu.

However, he stepped on the gas, driving toward officers in an escape bid.

"He definitely intended to hit us," said a police officer involved in the action.

Four grams of crystal meth, or "ice," were found on Wu and another 20 grams of "ice" were found in the car along with two knives, police said.
