Tires of 18 cars punctured at complex
RESIDENTS in a city complex awoke yesterday morning to discover that the tires of 18 vehicles had been punctured overnight.
Yangpu District police are investigating the incident, city television news said last night.
Householders in Fengcheng No. 3 Neighborhood on Yanji Road W. said 36 tires on 18 vehicles parked in the complex had been punctured.
Car owners said they had always parked in these spots and had no run-ins with other residents concerning noise or disputes over spaces.
"We paid our parking fees, 5 yuan per day, and there were no problems," said one victim surnamed Shao.
Some motorists accused the community's security and property management company of being lax, claiming that guards had not been patrolling.
"We pay the parking fee every month but they never patrol," said a motorist surnamed Lu, who had all his tires punctured.
However, security said they had a difficult job. "How can we take the responsibility? We are not supposed to leave the security room," said a guard surnamed Chen. There are three gates at the complex, and only three guards on at a time, Chen added.
