Training program for Expo families

JING'AN District is training families to look after foreign guests at their homes during the 2010 World Expo.

The Jing'an subdistrict, one of the five in the district, has recruited more than 70 "Expo families," Youth Daily reported today.

Foreign visitors will be able to visit the families in their homes, be taken to local wet markets to buy food, taste local delicacies, learn the Shanghai dialect and make handcrafts.

It will cost the visitors 100 yuan (US$14.62) to visit a home to enjoy a slice of Shanghai life, or they can just have tea with their hosts for 30 yuan or be shown around lanes and historic houses for 20 yuan.

The training covers etiquette, English, the Expo, Shanghai's customs and different foreign cultures of different countries.

The popular TV hostess Bai Waiqing, the star of "Old Uncle," a daily mediation show, heads the training program.
