Trains canceled as city braces for typhoon
A BLUE typhoon alert, the lowest in a four-tier system, was issued at 6:30pm yesterday by the city鈥檚 weather bureau due to Typhoon Hagupit.
The city鈥檚 flood bureau also raised its emergency response level yesterday.
Hagupit was upgraded at 2pm with a wind force 117 to 134 kilometers per hour and the intensity still increasing, Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
It was expected to land in neighboring Zhejiang Province last night or this morning. The maximum wind force in Shanghai鈥檚 coastal areas will reach 75 to 88 kph and 89 to 102 kph in Yangshan Port, sufficient to uproot trees, the bureau said.

Trains such as the G7333 from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Wenzhou South Railway Station, the D2287 from Hongqiao to Shenzhen North Railway Station, the G598 from Hongqiao to Hankou Railway Station, and the D3205 from Hongqiao to Xiamen North Railway Station were halted yesterday.

At 5pm yesterday, Hagupit was about 530 kilometers southeast of Shanghai and moving northwest at 25 kph, according to the Central Meteorological Observatory.
It is expected to bring rainfall and a modest fall in temperature today.
The Shanghai bureau issued a yellow alert, the third-highest in the four-tier system, for heat at noon yesterday, with a temperature of 35.1 degrees Celsius recorded at the Xujiahui meteorological center in Xuhui District.
