Trio held for stealing

THREE people have been arrested for allegedly ripping goods from delivery men's bikes, police said yesterday.

Police said the suspects, all in their 20s, usually followed delivery men and stole the goods on their bikes while they were delivering their goods in nearby buildings.

The gang of three had committed more than 10 robberies since May involving goods worth 50,000 yuan (US$7,367). The suspects then pretended to be delivery men and sold the spoils at the recipients' address.

On July 8, a delivery man surnamed Lin had seven parcels on his electric bike containing cordyceps sinensis, a valuable herb of Chinese medicine; 15 cell phones; and some T-shirts stolen while he was delivering in a residential area on Guokang Road. A similar incident took place on July 24 in a residential area on Zhoujiazui Road.

On checking the surveillance camera, police found that one of the three suspects later came back to Zhoujiazui Road and made a cash-on-delivery to the address.

The suspects were caught on August 12 in an Internet cafe in Hongkou District, police said.
