Truck knocks down scooter; 2 suffer fractures

A couple narrowly escaped death under the wheels of a lumbering concrete mixer this morning when their scooter was hit and rolled over at a crossroad in the city's Yangpu District.
The middle-aged couple suffered injuries in the accident but are both in stable condition.
The mishap happened at about 11:30am when the concrete mixer was turning left from Yingkou Road to Jiamusi Road and hit the scooter driving along Yingkou Road, witnesses said.
The scooter rolled over under the impact of the clash and the man and woman managed to avoid the truck wheels but sustained several fractures in the tumble.
They were immediately sent to the hospital. Traffic police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
