Try minsu for something different

Shanghai鈥檚 tourism authorities unveiled 30 star-rated minsu (B&Bs) yesterday as the city鈥檚 minsu experience week, part of the 2019 Shanghai Tourism Festival, kicked off in Jinshan District.

It is part of the city鈥檚 efforts to develop tourism on the outskirts of the metropolis and raise the quality and services of minsu in outlying areas, the Shanghai Administration of Culture and Tourism said.

Of the 30 minsu, eight are rated five-star and 11 four-star.

The criteria cover a range of indexes such as venue and facilities, accommodation, service, catering, traffic, the environment, safety and management.

SuYu Homestay in the Pudong New Area, Jiangnan Lianxiang in Jinshan District and Xieyuan in Chongming District were among the eight top minsu

Six villages 鈥 Yuye Village in Jinshan District, Wufang Village in Fengxian District, Xianqiao and Qianwei villages in Chongming District, Dayu Village in Jiading District and Gexin Village in Minhang District 鈥 were recommended as key countryside tourism destinations during the event.

During the minsu experience week, more than 60 hostels in the city鈥檚 rural areas will host various activities.

An electronic map revealing the city鈥檚 suburban tourism destinations has been released by the administration.

Minsu do not quite fit into any specific category of accommodation. The city authorities released a guideline in September last year to encourage the development of minsu and regulate the market. Several have since been licensed.

Minsu should be less than 800 square meters with fewer than 14 rooms, according to the guideline. There are also rules on operators, safety, staff and finances.
