US opens pavilion in Shanghai food show to boost exports

THE first-ever US pavilion endorsed by the US Agricultural Department opened today at the 2012 Food Ingredients China trade show as US food manufacturers are keen to build ties with their Chinese partners.

The US pavilion showcases American foods and ingredients, said Michael Scuse, the department's acting undersecretary for farm and foreign agricultural services, after a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center.

The show has attracted tens of thousands of professionals in the food sector on its first day and is serving as a platform for cooperation between Chinese and foreign companies.

Scuse is leading a large US trade delegation to China in the hope of helping American companies strike new deals and expand exports. South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard also came to promote US exports.

The delegation included the leaders of six state agricultural departments and brought nearly 40 business projects to Chinese food producers. They visited Chengdu before coming to Shanghai.
