US student visas for local applicants
MOST locals eager to pursue their studies in the United States have had their dreams come true as more than 90 percent of applicants from the East China area were granted US student visas, according to Alys Spensley, Consul of Culture of US Consulate General in Shanghai.
Spensley was speaking at a press conference for the 2009 US Higher Education Fair schedule on September 23, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.
The fair, sponsored by the Institute of International Education and Shanghai International Education Exchange Association, is the only US government-backed education fair in Shanghai.
This year's event will feature more than 60 US colleges and universities.
IIE data indicated there were 81,127 Chinese students studying in the US in the 2007 to 2008 academic year, 20 percent higher than the previous year.
