Unis alter classes for Expo

SEVERAL universities will alter classes and cut the summer vacation to allow students to volunteer for World Expo without disturbing their normal studies.

Nearly 200,000 students from more than 60 Shanghai universities and colleges will serve as volunteers for the six-month event which starts May, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.

Each will work two-week shifts. Fudan and Shanghai universities will cut their summer vacation by one week, while East China University of Science and Technology will shrink the holiday by two weeks.

Tongji and Jiao Tong universities will not reschedule the summer vacation but will alter class timetables.

Fudan, Shanghai and Tongji universities will each provide 4,200, 7,000 and 5,000 student volunteers respectively.
