Unsupervised boy falls to death

A Three-year-old fell to his death yesterday while left alone in a residential building.
The boy fell from the sixth floor in a community on Ruili Road in Minhang District about 11:30am. He landed on a canopy on the second floor and died at the scene.
The boy, nicknamed Ming Ming, lived with his family in an apartment on the fourth floor. His maternal grandmother took him to visit a neighbor living on the sixth floor. The neighbor, surnamed Dai, has a grandson similar to Ming Ming's age and the two boys often played together.
When Ming Ming and his maternal grandmother arrived at the front step of the neighbor, the boy's paternal grandmother came to their house. So his maternal grandmother left him on the porch and returned home to see the paternal grandmother. Ming Ming hadn't entered Dai's house yet. Soon the residents of the building heard a big bang and they found a boy lying on the canopy.
Dai said the window was closed. She suspected the boy climbed onto a children's cart and opened the window before falling out. She said if the grandmother had brought the boy into her house, the tragedy would have been avoided.
Parents are reminded to keep a close eye on minors, especially active boys. Children's injuries and deaths due to lack of parental supervision happen across the country from time to time. Wang Yue, a two-year-old girl in Guangdong Province, was run over by two vehicles when playing on the street alone this fall. She died after being rescued.
There are no laws on Chinese mainland punishing parents who fail to properly supervise their children and cause their injuries or death.
