Unwarranted parking service ends in tragedy
AN entertainment venue was ordered to compensate the family of a victim killed when one of its employees was moving a car backward for parking, the Songjiang People's Court said today.
The employee, surnamed Zhang, had no driving license, but he offered to help the car owner, surnamed Wang, to park his car in front of the venue last April. As he was driving backward, the car hit a passing motorcycle, killing the victim surnamed Wu and injuring his friend.
The court ruled that Zhang was mainly responsible for the accident and his employer should also pay compensation totalling 300,000 yuan (US$44,060).
In a separate case, a security guard, surnamed Li, also with no driving license, helped a resident in his neighborhood to move the vehicle to make way for others but he hit and injured a woman. His property management company was ordered to pay more than 20,000 yuan to the woman, the Jiading People's Court said today.
