Valentine's Day for the wildlife
MORE than 10,000 animals celebrated their own Valentine's Day today at the Shanghai Wildlife Park.
The park staged a love day for its residents to launch a four-month festival focusing on wildlife courting rituals.
Park officials said they chose yesterday because spring was the courting season for most animals.
They want the festival to promote understanding of wildlife and improve protection for species.
Fifteen species, including raccoons and crested ibis, will move to new homes in the park in May, officials said.
The park has created a 5,000-square-meter ecological zone to cater for its new residents.
A deep trench will separate the animals from park visitors.
The greenery around the animals' new homes will be the same as they would have in the wild, park officials said.
A wetland and a lake are being built for the crested ibis.
