Venezuela celebrates final construction on pavilion
CONSTRUCTION finished today on the Venezuela Pavilion, taking only three months from start to finish.
The plan was to finish before Spring Festival, "and we have worked and set a time record to achieve the common goal," said Issam Wahdan, head of construction, in today's roof-topping ceremony.
The pavilion, in the shape of the number eight, plays with traditional elements of Venezuelan architecture while symbolizing good luck in China.
Venezuela's flag has eight stars "which represents the last province to add to the dream of independence," said Venezuelan sub-commissioner general Jean Gonzalez. That independence was the dream of revolutionary figure Simon Bolivar.
The pavilion's theater will stage performances by Venezuela's national orchestra, and other stars, and a plaza will feature an open air restaurant.
